FUNday Monday is a featured day at the start of each week which covers different thematic experiences. On the weekends, the parents and child are encouraged to do various preparations for FUNday. The Idea is to make Monday interesting and exciting for the parents and the child. The child learns that, after a weekend, the next day is Monday and it is the first day of school for the week. They look forward to coming back to school, even if it is a long weekend. FUNday Monday encourages children and parents to work together and engage in productive and fun activities. Parents spend quality time with their children because there needs to be focused attention on the creative initiatives of the upcoming week. These activities build social skills and a sense of confidence in the child. They learn to share and appreciate the contributions and creativity of other children. Often, students are instructed to go home and share their experiences with family members. Examples of FUNday Monday themes A School has covered include: Thanksgiving
- Children learn to share things with others, especially those who are needy.
- They learn to collect things to give to the needy.
- They experience the joy of sharing.
ChristmasParents and teachers were invited to write about why each child was a star and this write up was added to the Christmas tree with a picture of a child. They gave away gifts to the needy/less privileged for Christmas. - Parents experience their bond with and their love for their children. They expressed all of that in words imagining them to be their little stars.
- Children learn and cherish the relationship with their parents and friends.
Mask day
Kids are invited to come to school wearing masks to act out a particular character. This is a form of spontaneous activity:
- Children learn about role play which is a core element of drama. A child intuitively gets to know how to play the character
Valentine’s dayIn this activity children dress up as their favourite character from a story. Who is a Valentine? Somebody you love, someone whom you share with. So the idea here is to transfer that feeling of intimacy and closeness, to a book. Teachers are asked to check out how the students responded to books, to bring the understanding of the story out of them. - Children develop story-telling skills, book reading, comprehension and listening.
- Children develop a love for books.
Classy from MessyHow fun it is to be messy and creative! Great artists and scientists have often discovered their greatest works in messy situations. So playing with playdo, paint and other creative medium allows the children to get a taste of that aspect of creativity. It’s about setting up an atmosphere for self-expression without inhibition that comes from the freedom to be messy and what comes from it could be something ‘classy’. Pet day
